Cargo.one currently employs 80 staff of whom15 are based in North America. “Since we are expanding very rapidly, we try to hire additional professionals willing to support our growth,” states Laura Weritz, Senior Manager - Brand, Marketing & Communications at the Berlin-based cargo.one GmbH. As a target, she speaks of an additional 70 experts needed by the end of this year, particularly to assist in penetrating new markets such as North America.
Following its impressive application throughout Europe, the cargo.one’s electronic platform has now been launched for use in the North American market, “because we can count on a network of 6 different freight carriers that offer the local market abundant capacity and a multitude of transport services,” she explains.
Easy access to booking portal
Forwarding agents are offered free utilization of the portal, partially financed through a fund-raising campaign channeling US$42m into the IT company’s coffers.
After simply filling out an electronic registration form, all potential business partners gain admission to cargo.one’s booking scheme. Once a forwarder has signed up and intends to book a shipment originating in Canada or the USA, they are given 24/7/365 access to real-time prices and available capacities offered by cargo.one’s airline partners to as many as 248 destinations worldwide. “Just sign up and simply give it a try - we, the cargo.one team, vouch for a best-in-class booking experience,” assures Oliver Neumann, co-founder and Managing Director of the online platform.
Freight agent speaks of a ‘game changer’
Instead of having to email or call each individual airline to request route and rate offers, the web tool provides all the relevant transport information at the simple click of a button. To be on the safe side, a pioneering set of freight agents have tested the platform before it was kicked off in North America. Tarik Muric, Regional Manager at Nosta Logistics of Bensenville, Illinois presumably speaks for many when describing his experiences: “As one of the first U.S.-based forwarders to try out the cargo.one booking platform, I am blown away by how quick and easy it is! I registered in just a couple of minutes, and the booking process literally takes seconds. cargo.one is a serious game-changer!” It can be assumed that Mr. Muric’s testimonial is much appreciated by the cargo.one team.
Eying Mexico and Latin America
The online portal’s management announced that soon additional cargo.one partner airlines serving North America (such as Saudia Cargo and El Al Cargo) will also go live on the continent. This will make sourcing activities to hire new personnel even more pressing.
Similar developments are also expected in Mexico, where tests are currently underway with a number of local freight forwarders in order to fine-tune the booking portal in accordance with local business practices. “Since these trials have reached an advanced stage, we hope to be able to activate our booking scheme for the Mexican market before the turn of the year,” announces Laura Weritz.
Next on cargo.one’s growth agenda is South America, where preparations have commenced to establish footing in the market. When this will happen is still a contested issue and will depend on the interest of carriers and forwarders to utilize the electronic booking channel. Simultaneously, cargo.one intends to bring its services to the Asia Pacific region in cooperation with its large network of established partner airlines which are serving that region.
