Three new routes have been added to the DSV Air Charter Network in an effort to combat the continuing lack of capacity crippling not just air freight but also sea freight. The first began on 21FEB21, with a weekly service from Luxembourg – Guarulhos, Sao Paulo, Brazil offering 100 tons of capacity per flight.
Starting today (01MAR21), a weekly Rockford Airport, Chicago, USA – Shanghai, China roundtrip connection will commence, again with a 100-ton capacity offer in both directions. From 01APR21, four weekly Luxembourg and Johannesburg, South Africa direct rotations totaling 150 tons of capacity, will complete the new service offer which connects five continents and attempts to offer some kind of stability in an otherwise still volatile pandemic environment.
Growing air charter services
“We know a lot of customers struggle with a tremendous amount of uncertainty and a general lack of capacity. Therefore, it is imperative for us to continue to provide new solutions to mitigate the negative impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic for them,” says Mads Ravn, Head of Global Air Freight Procurement at DSV.
The executive goes on to say: “We see cargo congestion at both seaports and airports around the world, hence it’s crucial that we seek to find alternative solutions. I am very pleased that we keep expanding our international air charter services. The aim is to offer more flexibility and security of cargo freight which is crucial and sought after by our many customers.”
Close cooperation with Cargolux and Atlas Air
DSV utilizes leased and chartered aircraft to guarantee its customers timely uplift capacity. The company emphasizes that its Air Charter Network is optimized for handling priority, express air charters, and special shipments.
DSV either charters entire aircraft or arranges part-charters. This happens on both a scheduled and ad-hoc basis. Building on its large presence at Luxembourg Airport, DSV has an agreement with Cargolux, ensuring that space is always available for its customers’ shipments. Similar contracts have been signed with U.S. capacity provider Atlas Air, and some of the largest operators in Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America.
