AirportCollegeCom joins Corona Combat with free Online Course

Airport College International, IATA’s strategic partner when it comes to aviation training, has created a free Corona Virus (COVID-19) eLearning course aimed at giving staff in all areas of the aviation and air logistics industry a clear understanding of pandemics, safety, prevention, and emergency procedures, and thus ultimately raising awareness to minimize the spread and risk of corona infection at the workplace.

This free online course based on current guidelines from authorities such as WHO, IATA, and other relevant governing bodies, ensures a standard knowledge level on coping with public health emergencies, and is easily accessible and implementable in company training procedures. Airport College International COO, Ari Ketola, reports on its immediate acceptance and success: “After releasing our free Coronavirus online course, Airlines and Ground Handling agents have taken this resource very quickly into full usage. Since going online, the course has already been studied in over 80 countries.”

Learning prevention measures to combat COVID-19 spread
Since going live on 09APR20, participants including myself, from all over the world have taken the course. After a simple sign-up which entails entering your email address to get a course access code, (and an official certificate if you pass the short test at the end), you are taken through a clearly structured, interactive presentation lasting around 25 minutes. Alternating between lively audio/visual elements with information being read out to you in clear, comprehensive English, and sections where you yourself click and read more details, the course is well laid out with clear learning goals at the beginning of each chapter, and summary points at the end.

“Moving Forward. Working together. Stay Strong.”
Starting with an overview as to what communicable diseases and pandemics are, and how diseases spread, the course moves on to preventive measures in different work areas on the aircraft, talks about cleaning, disinfecting, PPE, and what to do if someone is suspected as having COVID-19. Throughout the course, comprehension questions are posed with immediate feedback, and 5 questions in the test at the end check that the participant has understood the salient points. At least 80% is required for a pass and a certificate. The presentation then recaps all advised safety steps in its closing credits.
