The Doha-based carrier joined forces with logistics solution provider Descartes to aim at fully automating its global air mail management system, making flows more transparent and faster as well as offering customers premium services.

Precondition for the announced step was the blend of electronic systems: In this case Descartes’ vMail solution and CROAMIS, QR Cargo’s in-house management information system. Meanwhile, this challenging task has been accomplished, confirms the carrier’s Chief Officer Cargo, Guillaume Halleux: “Our dedicated teams have been working hard for months to ensure the seamless integration and interface between the two data-heavy systems, Descartes vMail and our in-house CROAMIS system. This is certainly a game-changer in the industry as we move forward with our automation and digitalization initiatives that not only enhance the customer experience, but also demonstrate our contribution to the environment by implementing 100 per cent paperless operations.”

Superb technology leads to higher product quality
QR Cargo further points out that the seamless integration of both electronic systems enables the complete automation of the air mail logistics chain from origin, through to the Doha hub and onto
the final destination, making manual entries a thing of the past. This way, value is added to the QR Mail product, claims the carrier, greatly increasing the efficiency and providing unrivalled
quality, end-to-end transparency, accelerating the physical flow of air mail, while keeping the entire process paperless. Other benefits include easy billing, robust revenue accounting and
real-time track and trace of mail consignments, reads a release.
Demand for air mail transportation is increasing
Vice President of Network Integration Strategy at Descartes, Jos Nuijten, stated on the occasion of the agreement signed with QR Cargo: “As international e-commerce growth continues to increase
demand for air mail transportation, our technology improves operational productivity and provides greater visibility essential to transforming the customer experience.”
Currently, 100-plus tons of international air mail transit daily through the carrier’s Airmail Unit at Hamad International Airport. More than fifty stations across the QR Cargo’s global network
take part in the air mail management systems. It is only a first step with additional stations to follow, announced the carrier.
