The Singapore-based low cost carrier Jetstar Asia has appointed general sales agent European Cargo Services (ECS) to run their freight business. A major assignment including the airline’s entire cargo activities at Singapore Changi Airport and 25 further destinations that are currently part of their rapidly expanding network.
According to Francis Loi, Head of Commercial, Jetstar Asia, the appointment of a cargo sales agent to run the business is a reaction to increased intra-Asia cross-border trade driven by a growing middle-class. “The rapid growth of the e-commerce marketplace in Asia is shaping the demand for air freight as e-sellers and e-buyers prefer air freight for expedited deliveries. Demand for fresh perishables and special cargo across the region is expected to grow as consumption in Asia Pacific rises,” stated the manager.
He went on to say: “Existing freight customers can expect more of the reliable scheduled services across the network via Singapore and beyond, while the new capabilities from ECS will allow us to tap on new cargo business segments.”
Jetstar Asia continues cooperating with Qantas Freight
Bertrand Schmoll, ECS Group CEO says: “ECS has an established strong and reliable sales and distribution network worldwide and we confirm our solid presence in Southeast Asia. With operations in more than 10 countries in the region, ECS is equipped to deliver the network and support for the final mile distribution for freight customers today.”
Jestar Asia manager Loi added to this thought, saying that the partnership with ECS will be built on the solid base of customers already established with Qantas Freight since 2011. He confirmed that Jetstar Asia will continue its partnership with Qantas Freight for interline arrangements for cargo through the Jetstar network across the Asian region. While Qantas Freight continues to provide freight services for the Australia-based Jetstar Airways.
ECS is steadily spreading its wings in Southeast Asia
Currently, Jetstar Asia operates 18 aircraft and operates more than 600 weekly return flights across 25 destinations in 13 countries.
Winning the low cost airline as customer can be seen as a major success achieved by the French ECS Group. Only recently, the GSA had acquired a major stake in Southeast Asia’s AVS GSA Group, thereby strengthening its position in a very vibrant and rapidly growing market. It can be expected that the former AVS sales force, that meanwhile became part of ECS, will be responsible for selling the lower deck capacity of the Jetstar Asia aircraft beginning in less than a month.
