FedEx Express said it has reached an agreement with Japan Post to collaborate on international delivery services to improve customer experience for both inbound and outbound shipments.

A statement from FedEx in Japan said that under the terms of the agreement, which will come into effect next year, outbound shipments from Japan will be enhanced with FedEx providing its
International Economy operations for Japan Post’s international delivery service U-Global Express.
The pact with FedEx will also see Japan Post expanding its UGX service to U.S. destinations. Japan Post will handle pick-ups from shippers in Japan, while FedEx will handle customs clearance and
delivery to the US final destination.

As for inbound shipments, once packages have been cleared through customs by FedEx, Japan Post will handle the last mile domestic delivery for certain packages, the statement said.
It added that the new collaboration will expand the delivery options for businesses which need transportation solutions for comparatively small and lightweight yet high value products coming from
the expanding e-commerce market.
