The 46-year old will succeed Oliver Evans, who had announced stepping down next fall after leading the carrier’s cargo division for a remarkable 13 years. Bhat will assume his new responsibilities on the first of October.

Today’s announcement doesn’t really come as surprise. All those who attended Swiss WorldCargo’s press conference at the Transport Logistic trade fair last May in Munich might have already guessed
that the members of the Swiss Board will decide in favor of Bhat to take the top job at the carrier’s freight division. Why? Because during the media event, attended by Oliver Evans and other
leading Swiss execs, it was Bhat in his role as the key speaker, explaining and illustrating Swiss World Cargo’s current and future strategy.
With Bhat’s appointment, the Swiss Board purposely opted for someone from inside the company, who can be considered a pioneer, joining Swiss WorldCargo back in 2002 shortly after the airline
emerged from the ashes of bankrupt Swissair.
“Proven air freight specialist”
After a number of years serving in various capacities within Pricing, Revenue Management and Controlling, the Indian national was appointed Head of Area Management Asia, Middle East & Africa
in 2010. Responsibility for the Americas was added to Ashwin’s post in November 2012. During the last two years he has served as Swiss WorldCargo’s Head of Global Area Management, in charge of
worldwide sales of the Swiss cargo product.
Harry Hohmeister, CEO of SWISS commented: “Ashwin Bhat is a proven airfreight specialist. We look forward to continuing our work with him, and we wish him every success and satisfaction in his
new capacity. I also offer Oliver Evans our sincere thanks, on behalf of our Board of Directors and our entire Management Board, for his own exceptional commitment and for the outstanding work
and performance of his Cargo team over the past few years.”
