The Hong Kong carrier signed a master agreement with Frankfurt, Germany-based ULD specialist DoKaSch Temperature Solutions GmbH. Under the agreement CX Cargo will rent new cool containers provided by DoKaSch for safely transporting temperature critical products. The carrier is the ULD provider’s first customer in Asia for their “Opticooler” named boxes based in Asia.

Swedish market leader Envirotainer gets a competitor and the markets are offered alternative choices for carrying sensitive products like pharmaceuticals, medical items, vaccines or blood plasma
around the globe. The reason for this is DoKaSch Temperature Sensitive’s Opticoolers RAP and RKN that thanks to carriers like Lufthansa Cargo, Emirates SkyCargo and Swiss WorldCargo are already
in operation some time. During the first quarter of 2015, Cathay Pacific Cargo will follow suit, becoming the first Asian carrier to utilize these cool boxes.
According to the producer, their Opticoolers are the Mercedeces or Rolls Royces among this specific product segment for carrying temperature critical items door-door, from A to B. “The
Opticoolers outperform all comparable products due to their highly advanced compressor technology and integrated Central Processing Unit,” claims the producer.
Best possible solution, says CX Cargo
This promise has obviously convinced the CX managers or else they wouldn’t have entered into the master agreement. Mark Sutch, Cathay Pacific’s General Manager Cargo Sales & Marketing
comments that: “Cathay Pacific Cargo is pleased to be the first Asian carrier offering our customers an alternative solution for their temperature-sensitive air cargo shipments.” He goes on to
say: “In a growing market, and in Asia in particular, we can provide the entire range of active containers, enabling us to offer our customers the best possible air-cargo solution to meet their
needs.”
Max 3 percent temperature variation
According to DoKaSch TS their Opticoolers are technically equipped to program goods at temperatures in a range between +2°C and +30°C. So they can both cool or heat the shipments according to
customer demand with temperatures remaining constantly in a range of +/-3° centigrade, a very narrow fluctuation band.
Andreas Seitz, Managing Director of DoKaSch Temperature Solutions, commented on the CX Cargo deal: “We are very pleased to sign this contract with one of the leading carriers of
temperature-sensitive goods. We are convinced that this cooperation with Cathay Pacific will provide a great solution for pharmaceutical shippers and forwarders around the globe.” He adds to
this, by comparing his with other products obtainable in the market, that charging the batteries of Opticoolers needs only four hours, whereas products offered by competitors take between 10 to
12 hours to be repowered. His firm also points out that the insulation and cooling power of their Opticoolers are best-in-class and that “excellent technical support” is granted in case needed by
customers.
Different products, different prices
For airlines and forwarding agents it might be interesting to know the prices for renting Opticoolers if rented out directly: prices then can be found on the homepage at www.dokasch-ts.com or be requested at all carriers offering the range of
Opticoolers.
